Wood and Surface Guide

In the realm of natural beauty and unparalleled elegance, both marble and wood stand out as materials of choice for adding warmth, character, and luxury to any space. However, it’s important to acknowledge the inherent qualities that make each piece unique. This page serves as a gentle reminder of the natural properties of marble and wood—properties that contribute to their distinctiveness but also require a specific understanding and care. From variations in colour, grain, and texture to the special attention needed to maintain their beauty, we’ll dive into what makes these materials both exquisite and uniquely challenging. Let’s celebrate the natural imperfections that make marble and wood not just elements of our decor, but storytellers of the natural world.

Hardwood Natural Product Care Information

The characteristics of the wood used to build a particular product may vary slightly from the wood used in any samples or product photography due to the inherent characteristics of the material.

Wood is a natural material. There will be variation, including knots, texture and grain variations. We can not control or guarantee the exact look of any board or product.

All of our products are completely handcrafted, and we make no representation or guarantee that any product will appear exactly as any another. We produce our products to represent the marketing photos as best as possible.

Wood is a natural product that responds to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. Sometimes these changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the product.

Although every care is taken to ensure our products are able to handle temperature and humidity changes, the conditions of your home can affect the wooden products you buy from us. Your items can experience small movements and cracks as it adjusts – this is not a fault, but a natural occurrence within the fibres of a natural product. These cracks are known as “Checks” in the timber industry. These checks are not faults or defects but the characteristic of solid wood as an entity, wood tends to dry over the period of time but this phenomena does not hamper the life of the furniture.

We advise you to keep the product in consistent, stable conditions to minimise the affects of temperature and moisture change in the atmosphere. For example, avoiding placing the product close to a heat sources such as a radiator or oven will go a long way to ensuring the longevity of the product. We cannot guarantee that the wood will not move/warp/shrink if placed in a conservatory or beside large bi-folding doors.

Any modifications or alterations made to the products post purchase are not recommended and will void the product warranty.

Production of our Hardwood Products

The wood used in the furniture is perfectly seasoned for optimum moisture content. This reduces the possibility of seasonal expansion or contraction of the products. Although we do everything we can at this stage to prevent seasonal expansions and contractions, minor checks can still occur.
Post manufacturing, each product has gone through a stringent quality checking process in multi-stages, with a checkpoint of multiple quality aspects. This is to ensure you will be receiving a premium item.
Our products are fully finished. There is no requirement for any additional finishing with oils /varnish, although some items are delivered with “knock down” legs for safe transit as described in terms and conditions.

Care

Always use coasters or mats while keeping hot, cold or wet materials on the surface.
Any spillage should be wiped dry with a soft cloth immediately.
Any cleaning needs to be done with water only.
Colour / polish can fade due to prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Cleaning Surfaces

To clean surfaces, we recommend wiping first with a slightly damp cloth to clean any minor stains and dust and then use a dry cloth immediately after to fully dry the table. If you drop a stain on your table, we recommend wiping with a damp cloth and then again with a dry one. To preserve the finish we recommend the use of placemats. The table is professionally finished and treated, it features a surface which will last for many years to come. We only recommend cleaning your table using the method above.

Embracing the Unique Beauty of Marble

When it comes to incorporating the elegance of natural materials into our living spaces, marble stands out for its timeless appeal and luxurious touch. It’s important to appreciate that marble, as a natural stone, carries with it the story of its formation through unique patterns, tones, and colors.

Each piece of marble is a testament to the natural world’s artistry, featuring a distinct blend of hues and vein patterns that make it truly one-of-a-kind. This means that the marble product you welcome into your home may exhibit different tones and colours compared to those presented on our website or in our showroom.

This variation is not a flaw but rather a hallmark of marble’s natural beauty and authenticity. It ensures that the piece you select is uniquely yours, never exactly replicated in any other product or setting. As you consider adding marble to your space, embrace the material’s inherent diversity as a feature that enhances its appeal and contributes to the creation of a rich, personalized interior design narrative.

Caring for Your Marble Surface

A marble dining table, sideboard, chest, cabinet et al is not just a piece of furniture; it’s a statement of sophistication and timeless elegance. To maintain its beauty and integrity for years to come, proper care is essential. Here’s a simple guide to keep your marble dining table in pristine condition:

Daily Cleaning: Use a soft cloth and warm water for daily clean-ups. For a bit more cleaning power, a mild detergent can be added to the water. Avoid acidic cleaners or vinegar, which can etch the marble’s surface.

Spill Management: Marble is porous, making it susceptible to staining. Wipe up spills immediately—especially acidic substances like wine, coffee, and fruit juices—to prevent staining and etching.

Use Coasters and Placemats: Protect your marble table by using coasters under glasses and placemats or trivets under dishes and hot pans. This not only prevents etching and staining but also avoids scratches.

Polishing: For an extra layer of protection and to maintain its shine, polish your marble table periodically with a marble-specific polish. Follow the product instructions carefully.

Sealing: Applying a marble sealer at least once a year can help prevent stains by filling the pores in the marble. This doesn’t make it stain-proof but gives you more time to wipe up spills. Many of our marble tables will feature a clear coat lacquer to protect the tables surface.

Avoid Sharp Objects: Marble can scratch, so avoid using sharp objects directly on the surface. Always cut on a cutting board and avoid dragging dishes or decorations across the table.

By following these care tips, your marble dining table will continue to be a centerpiece of elegance and sophistication in your dining area, reflecting your care and attention in its lustrous surface.
